On  monday,  I'm  going  on  a  school  trip  to  Alabama,  so  I  won't  be  back  till  friday.  :P

Anyways,  I've  been  getting  this  horrible  fps  lag  lately...  anyone  have  any  ideas  on  what's  wrong?  Like  I  can't  even  get  a  stable  250  anymore....  then  sometimes,  it  goes  to  20s  for  like  10  seconds  straight...

 Post  a  solution.  :P

 check  for  viruses,  spyware  etc...
if  you  installed  something  recently  uninstall  it..
If  you  updated  drivers  revert  back  to  your  old  ones.

Anything  that  runs  in  the  background  on  your  machine  can  produce  FPS  lag..On  my  computer  I  only  have  the  essentials  running...  eg;  my  machine  has  only  18  processes  in  the  taskmon...

This  isn't  just  ending  the  process  n00b.   It's  disabling  it  permanently  so  that  it  DOESN'T  start  when  you  reboot!

or  you  can  just  not  install  crapware  that  boggs  down  your  system  in  the  first  place.

 tips:

  •  Defrag  your  computer  (it  really  does  help  to  have  a  unfragmented  system)

  •  Always  keep  your  drivers  updated  (videocard,  soundcard,  mouse/keyboard,  usb  devices)

  •  Dont  install  lots  of  crapware

  •  Make  sure  your  only  running  what  you  need.  Disable  unwanted  startup  programs  by  typing  in  'msconfig'  in  the  run  command  head  over  to  the  starup  tab  and  disable  everything  thats  not  immediately  needed  (quicktime, msn, yahoo, aim, realplayer, simmlar  garbage).

  •  be  sure  to  check  for  viri  regularly

  •  Install  Windows  Updates,  they  are  released  for  a  reason

  •  If  you  use  a  codec  pack  to  watch  videos,  for  gods  sake  use  cccp  http://cccp-project.net  stuff  like  k-lite  and  other  codec  packs  use  outdated  codecs  and  ones  that  can  fubar  your  system.

  •  Dont  install  vlc  player  use  mediaplayer  classic.  Mediaplayer  classic(included  with  cccp)  uses  all  codecs  and  can  play  just  about  anything  better  then  vlc.

  •  for  free  online  viri  scans  use  http://housecall65.trendmicro.com  or  http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/scanner/eula.htm?scanner=default&redir=true

 If  all  else  fails,  reformat/reinstall.
