I'm  pretty  psyched  about  this  game  as  well.  Just  to  prepare  for  it  I  bought  BF:BC2  on  ebay  for  $15  BUT  for  Xbox.  I'll  be  honest  guys,  one  of  the  main  reasons  I  am  getting  this  game  is  to  play  with  you  guys  again.  Unfortunately  only  one  of  my  friends  in  RL  has  the  rig  to  play  this  game  so  I  am  depending  on  people  I  knew  from  Quake  and  the  ones  I  met  on  MW2.  And  let's  be  honest,  this  isn't  CoD  where  you  can  carry  the  entire  team.  This  game  is  extremely  team  focused  so  it  would  be  nice  to  have  proper  teammates  from  Quake  3  (that  spammed  their  macros  in  teamchat  saying  FROZEN  HERE,  MELT  ME.  Haha  =P).

I  have  the  money  saved  up  for  a  brand  new  rig  but  I  am  waiting  for  beta  and  hardware  benchmarks  for  this  game  first.  I'm  debating

 A.  Will  this  game  take  advantage  of  hyperthreading  (many  people  claimed  yes).  If  so,  I'll  get  the  i7  2600k,  if  not,  the  i5  2500k  (Although  I  still  want  i7  for  e-peen  reasons  haha).

 B.  Which  GPUs  will  run  this  game  best?  So  far  I  am  leaning  to  the  AMD  6970  hoping  it  can  play  it  smoothly  on  max  settings  at  1680xsomething  resolution.  If  not,  crossfire  6870  should  do  the  trick.  This  is  assuming  AMD  and  Nvidia  stay  equal  ground  in  terms  of  performance.

I  have  high  hopes  hardware  wise  because  DICE  mentioned  that  they  optimized  their  game  not  to  require  much  more  hardware  than  BF:BC2.  What  I  don't  have  high  hopes  for  is  the  actual  teamwork  gameplay  of  the  game.  Skap,  I  noticed  you  have  alpha  so  maybe  you  can  comment  on  this  (also  if  you  played  BF2  and  BF:BC2  can  you  compare  and  contrast  BF3  alpha  for  us?)

How  does  the  squad  system  work?  Unfortunately  I  heard  they  continued  to  keep  the  dumbed  down  version  from  the  Bad  Company  games.  Having  a  commander,  squad  leaders,  and  able  to  manually  create  and/or  choose  individual  squads  was  really  an  amazing  part  of  BF2  and  BF2142  which  I  heard  is  not  in  BF3.  That's  blasphemy  to  me!  It's  already  bad  in  BF:BC2  (on  Xbox  not  sure  how  PC  works)  that  you  end  up  joining  the  losing  team  (because  of  rage  quitters)  and  you  can't  even  properly  organize  your  squad  to  turn  the  fight  around.

Heh,  I  also  have  some  IRL  friends  who  will  play,  but  I've  already  told  them  my  heart  belongs  to  o2o  Wink.  Well,  not  exactly  in  these  words,  that  would  be  pretty  geek-ish.

Anyways  I'm  glad  to  see  you'll  be  sticking  around  for  BF3  ;O!

Couldn't  of  said  it  better  Kikyo.  It's  good  to  see  you  guys  still  around.  I've  had  a  chance  to  talk  to  Mega  on  steam  a  few  times  and  Jesus  and  I  have  been  tearing  up  in  Black  Ops  like  its  nobody's  business.

Speaking  of  business,  I  need  help  from  you  guys  (Knowing  I'm  not  the  only  hardware  geek  on  here).

So  initially  I  was  going  to  build  a  rig  myself  by  ordering  parts  from  newegg  and  tiger  direct.
Priced  at  around  $1300  with  i7  2600k,  8GB  DDR3  1600Mhz,  AMD  6970,  Asus  P8Z68  mobo,  1TB  HD,  850W  raidmax  psu,  case,  and  random  shit  like  some  optical  drive,  paste,  operating  system  etc...

Then  I  went  on  cyberpowerpc.com  and  I  customized  a  computer  there.  Cost  roughly  $50  more  for  roughly  the  smae  parts  but  they  do  give  you  a  3  year  warranty  and  my  buddy  bought  from  there  and  chose  the  option  to  have  the  cables  neatly  made  and  they  done  an  outstanding  job  that  I  would  never  be  able  to  do.

Now  I  am  also  one  of  those  people  that  browses  for  deals  everyday  on  deals2buy,  logicbuy,  dealzon  and  etc.  There  is  a  30%  off  an  HP  computer  coupon.  In  the  end,  for  $1,049.99  (+  free  shipping)  got  me  a  i7  2600,  nVidia  GTX  580,  8GB  DDR  1333Mhz,  1TB  HD,  600W  psu.

This  HP  deal  is  really  something.  Yes  I  lose  the  ability  to  pick  a  cool  case,  a  proper  mobo,  and  a  PSU  but  thats  where  I  save  $250-300.  I  also  get  slower  memory  and  lose  the  ability  to  OC  the  i7  but  thay  aren't  limiting  factors  in  gaming  anyway.  1600Mhz  ram  and  4.5ghz  clock  speed  on  the  2600k  probably  wouldn't  give  me  any  noticeable  FPS  increase.  But,  I  left  the  best  for  last.  This  puppy  would  come  with  a  1.5gb  GTX  580  card  which  a  lone  is  $450-500  on  newegg  and  is  a  little  better  than  the  AMD  6970.  And  of  course  a  warranty  because  god  knows  how  this  hardware  will  handle  the  heat  in  their  shitty  cases.  As  soon  as  its  up  I'm  definitely  putting  it  in  a  proper  case  haha.

What  do  you  guys  think  I  should  do?  Any  idea  if  prices  are  even  going  to  drop  by  Oct  25th  and  therefore  I  should  wait?  I  got  till  Sept  21st  to  decide  (coupon  expires).

I  had  a  nice  chat  with  Mega  and  decided  to  wait  on  my  build.

Riddick  you  make  a  very  valid  point.  It  does  make  it  more  interesting  and  satisfying  when  you  have  your  own  parts.  Also  anyone  who  build  their  own  computer  knows  that  it  feels  like  Christmas  when  you  get  the  huge  ass  box  from  newegg  with  all  your  parts.  It  makes  you  feel  like  that  one  "OM  MY  GOD"  kid  on  youtube.  However,  after  going  from  two  builds  I  am  kind  of  bored  of  actually  setting  it  up.  Cable  management  sucks  (although  I  haven't  tried  one  of  those  cool  cases  that  hides  the  cables)  and  I'd  just  want  it  ready  to  go  with  the  parts  I  want  so  we'll  see  what  I'll  end  up  doing.

Anyway,  something  more  relevant  to  everyone  else

 Minimum  System  Requirements
OS:  WINDOWS  VISTA  (SERVICE  PACK  2)  32-BIT
PROCESSOR:  2  GHZ  DUAL  CORE  (CORE  2  DUO  2.4  GHZ  OR  ATHLON  X2  2.7  GHZ)
 MEMORY:  2  GB
 HARD  DRIVE:  20  GB
GRAPHICS  CARD  (AMD):  DIRECTX  10.1  COMPATIBLE  WITH  512  MB  RAM  (ATI  RADEON  3000,  4000,  5000  OR  6000  SERIES,  WITH  ATI  RADEON  3870  OR  HIGHER  PERFORMANCE)
GRAPHICS  CARD  (NVIDIA):  DIRECTX  10.0  COMPATIBLE  WITH  512  MB  RAM  (NVIDIA  GEFORCE  8,  9,  200,  300,  400  OR  500  SERIES  WITH  NVIDIA  GEFORCE  8800  GT  OR  HIGHER  PERFORMANCE)
 SOUND  CARD:  DIRECTX  COMPATIBLE
 KEYBOARD  AND  MOUSE
 DVD  ROM  DRIVE

 Recommended  System  Requirements
 OS:  WINDOWS  7  64-BIT
 PROCESSOR:  QUAD-CORE  CPU
 MEMORY:  4  GB
 HARD  DRIVE:  20  GB
GRAPHICS  CARD:  DIRECTX  11  COMPATIBLE  WITH  1024  MB  RAM  (NVIDIA  GEFORCE  GTX  560  OR  ATI  RADEON  6950)
 SOUND  CARD:  DIRECTX  COMPATIBLE
 KEYBOARD  AND  MOUSE
 DVD  ROM  DRIVE

 Source:  http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/1/beta

It  doesn't  look  promising  to  me.  I'm  guessing  no  single  card  (not  even  the  GTX580)  will  be  able  to  play  this  on  max  settings.  Recommended  is  usually  medium-high.  If  medium-high  doesn't  look  amazing  in  comparison  to  console  I'm  going  to  be  pissed.

 EDIT:
Diablo  3  beta  came  out  as  well.  Hoooray!
