Desire 2.0 has been given life as of this evening, whether or not it continues beyond a month or two is entirely up to you.

Need a break from the overcrowded servers that seem to have claimed the community all to themselves?

Want a chance to experience scrim like #'s while enjoying a public game?

Drop by for a game or two from time to time.

I really tried to leave as much alone with slack's cfg as possible, but it did drop the melt from 2000 a little along with putting some degree of anticamper in place (original Desire had no anticamper activated).

Other than that I changed the spawn protection to go more with the current trend; spawn protection for the spawner and the spawnee as opposed to just the spawner.

I've already begun distributing ref to a handful of trusted people amongst various clans, I'll keep looking for some other people from other clans to diversify things a bit.

I hope everyone enjoys the server.

So, you changed just about everything. What makes this any different from a regular rail server? I recommend putting the melt time back to 2000. That was one of the core elements to the nostalgic gameplay of Desire.

Wow, you sound like TOG.

I changed two things - no need to be dramatic and say i changed everything.

In this day and age of our community people are used to 1000 melt time on the majority of the servers, 2000 caused a lot of complaints. I reduced it to 1600 and still got a lot of complaints. I'm settling on 1300, although I did think 1600 was a nice compromise.

I changed the spawn protection because yet again, the community is used to reverse spawn protection now. Hell, even o2o

had it that way for a bit. Now you changed back to the old way and guess what, people hate playing at o2o

server.

Shall I assume putting an anticamper into the cfg was a bad change too since the original Desire didn't have one?   Just trying to get across the point that change may not necessarily be bad in some regards.

I will say this, you make a valid point that the melt time was a vital part of the gameplay at desire I'll put it up a few notches and let people get used to it.   Hopefully it wont irritate people to the point of not wanting to play there.

But yeah, sorry you feel like I changed everything.   I wont be expecting to see you there Kev.

No, I think you read into my mood wrong. I understand completely that the spawn protection and anti-camper needed to change, but the melting time is a very big part of the gaming experience from desire. It doesn't matter if people complain. You are showcasing a piece of quake history.

Look forward to seeing me there. I would love to get some old school games.

Simply stating you said I changed the cfg around too, did you not comment about how I messed with the cfg on your post @ HS forum? Yes.

Btw I meant nothing by it, just noting that you had made it a point to comment about that and so did Kev.

Anyways on a lighter note, for those who do give the server a try I hope ya'll like it. Paying 2 months in advance to Mav and we'll see how things are going (or not going, for that matter) before considering keeping it beyond that period.

I played there a bit earlier. We had 5 on the server at peak (after about 4 games). Wasn't bad. It would be better if the server had about 10 people. Very Happy

We had it maxed out at 12 people, don't know the private pw yet but I am sure I will hack into like calie and pixel likes to hack forums.. lol Laughing

it was fun yesterday and it be great to play like we use to back in the day... Now seeing if we can find old dv1 ref's and get them to play would be a great joy.

It is idiotic comments like this that cause more drama than needed. For the 100000000000th time. Sha was given the password, no hacks. But, whatever makes some people not have to play them so you don't get raped. Don't even understand what would make you think to make this comment on our site, but than again, stupidity is stupidity. And don't say you were kidding.

GL with the server. I agree that melt time and spawns were what made desire, desire. We shall see how it goes.
