Bryce  Harper  is  a  16  year  old  sophomore  in  a  Nevada  High  School.  He  is  lined  up  to  sign  the  first  ever  1  billion  dollar  contract  in  any  sport.  He  has  recently  hit  a  570  foot  home  run.  He  consistently  hits  the  ball  500+  feet.  His  bat  speed  is  faster  than  Mark  McGuire  in  his  prime  (when  he  was  on  steroids).  He  throws  out  kids  stealing  second  base  from  his  knees.  He  has  stolen  home  from  2nd  base  on  a  wild  pitch  6  times  this  season.  He's  been  clocked  with  a  96  mph  fastball.  He  has  enough  talent  to  play  in  the  NBA  or  MLB  as  a  16  year  old.  This  kid  is  the  ultimate  athlete.  He  is  already  considered  better  than  A-roid/Griffey  Jr.  as  a  sophomore  compared  to  when  they  were  seniors  in  high  school.  Watch  out  for  this  kid.

yep,  he  is  NASTY.  Huge  article  in  this  weeks  SI  about  him.  I  just  hope  the  poor  kid  lives  up  to  the  potential  that  media  is  calling  him  the  Lebron  James  of  baseball.  Baseball  is  one  of  the  hardest  sports  to  project  in  terms  of  young  players.  It  will  be  exciting  though...

I  don't  really  know  how  they  can  make  such  extreme  predictions  as  far  as  comparisons  go  -  similar  players  in  high  school  become  totally  different  people  at  the  pro  level.

Some  simply  cannot  make  the  transition  from  aluminum  to  wooden  bats.   I'm  not  saying  he  wont  make  the  pros  and  be  a  solid  player,  but  there's  a  strong  possibility  the  change  of  bat  along  with  the  increased  difficulty  of  major  league  pitching  turns  him  into  "just  another  player".   A  good  example  of  being  a  player  who  absolutely  destroys  the  ball  with  aluminum  and  really  struggled  with  wooden  bats  is  Pat  "the  bat"  Burrell  (I  laugh  at  the  nickname).   Yes,  he  has  hit  30+  homeruns  in  a  pro  season  but  that's  nowhere  near  what  the  "hype"  indicated  he  would  do.   You  just  never  know.

Hopefully  he  avoids  any  serious  injuries  and  we  can  find  out  if   he  really  is  worth  the  hype;  nice  video  thanks  for  sharing.     Very Happy

Ah  well,  in  the  handful  of  youtube  vids  I  bothered  watching  it  was  all  *ping*  followed  by  the  ball  going  500  feet.
