Ok so lately I am having some extra time and don't really know how to spend it. Obviously I go out and have a social life but I got free time even beyond that. I used that time to play World of Warcraft and results were so so. I had the best PvP gear and it felt good but this never ending cycle is just frustrating. I put all this time and commitment to get it so in the end an expansion pack comes out and makes it absolutely worthless. I tried CS:S but I cannot get good at it. Compared to Quake I see less teamwork it it as well. My friend is trying to get me to play Crysis Warhead but lets be honest, Crysis is for the people that like the eyecandy, my GeForce 7900GS wouldn't bring me that. I got Red Alert 3 for free that just got boring quicker then the rest of the games. I also ended up selling my Xbox 360, which I very very deeply regret but oh well.

Here comes the debate I am having. Is it worth coming back to Quake?
Pros
-I have years of experience in this game. No surprises I should be comfortable and owning it up in no more then 3 hours of game time.
-The community is priceless. Everybody knows each other so there is a lot of interaction between people.
-Its free, (unlike WoW, or Xbox Live, or having me buy another game)
Cons
-Community is dying. It was heartbreaking for me when slackshack died years ago. eRa, vT, #1 and other clans are gone. Many people in those clans left as well.
-Cheating. Rumors have it its only getting worse.
-Old game. Maybe its time to move on?

Seeing that UE and o2o

are the very few of the longest lasting clans and players your opinions mean the most for me.
Should I come back to Quake?

Why?
If no, what game do you suggest I should start playing?

I would recommend team fortress 2. It has a unique twist on the regular gameplay you were used to in q3. There are 9 classes of players to choose from that are fairly balanced but are tweaked so you can pick some to your liking. Very excellent game. I am sure others will agree.

However, quake is always here for you if you wish to return.

i'd say .16n is far from dying, but has a large state on inactivity, we all have lives as you do, that being said some have chose to move on and begin other games, people like my self hop on time to time daily to tear it up like b4.

I'd say come back give it a shot, the clan life/system isn't what it was, so the competition 16n. made so priceless has infact faded away, but non the less COM BACK BIOTCH

Since you requested the opinions of UE and o2o

I'll throw my 2 cents in..

Yes, vT and eRa "died" but hardly any (if any) members in those clans have left the game since those times.   Most are now found in clans [i] and 2ez.

I keep hearing this game is dying but I keep seeing the same servers with same amounts of people in it whenever I find to play.   Even though the same servers seem just as active I will state that I do see less and less clans around to play, it does seem to always be the same clans playing the same clans but it's been that way for a while anyway.

Personally I'm all for people coming back to Quake, the more experienced players around the better things are for the game itself in my opinion.   If you haven't already, check out the latest noghost cgame it's pretty sexy.    Smile

You guys do sound really convincing, except Pixel lmao, I'll stick around the forums for a little longer check out what others have to say. I don't like to announce anything because I quickly change minds but I'll probably ask some of you guys to hit up some pub games with me =P

Anyway, SS Desire dead. Dallas seems to be slowly dying.
What are the new popular servers?
IPs would be very appreciated.

here's my theory: if you're asking others if it's worth coming back, then you're probably not all that eager to come back. :P

but i wouldn't even think about it too much...just log on, play and have a good time. if you find yourself bored, then maybe this isn't your thing. if you find yourself getting into it again, then you can think about clans but i wouldn't jump into it until you're certain of your level of commitment.

I'd hardly say Dallas is dying - still 20+ peeps in the evenings (est), and during the morning/early afternoon HS Public TDM still has that amount of people and then some usually.

Killer Freeze is a pretty popular place to play too, map rotation and shit like that.

New Cgame aint a whole lot better than the previous, some new sounds, scoreboard kinda like nemesis, frosty breath for players to kinda give a freeze arena feel to things, and a supposedly improved antibot but that remains to be seen...

Along with that if you forcemodel your team you can make them a specific color combination you like and if you are big on "eye candy" you can enable lens flares (values 0-7; 0 being off and 7 being full effects which is kinda sexy in my opinion)
