I  have  to  say...It's  a  noobish  feature,  but  I  really  like  it.
And  it's  kind  of  "all  right"  with  battlefield  games,  when  you  have  huge  maps,  lots  of  trees  and  bushes,  its  hard  to  notice  anything  in  the  chaos  sometimes.

By  the  way,  anyone  know  how  to  make  your  "spot  button"  more  sensitive  ?  Sometimes  you've  got  to  press  it  598  times  to  get  attention  from  any  of  the  gay  dudes  carrying  bullets  or  health  packs.

Spotting  is  fine  like  the  one  in  Battlefield  2.   When  you  spot  they  go  on  your  radar  and  if  you  miss  it  it's  just  a  question  mark  but  it  can  still  tell  people  where  they  are.   The  3d  triangle  crap  was  basically  wallhacks  which  annoyed  me.

Yeah  I  suppose  the  spotting  system  was  kinda  noob-friendly.  Maybe  they  should  do  it  so  it  only  appears  on  your  radar,  and  not  on  the  whole  3D  platform.

 It  is  noob  friendly.
But  my  big  fat  unfriendly  opinion  says  it  was  a  good  addition,  IMO.  I  really  haven't  played  as  fun  a  game,  as  BC2  was,  for  ages.

The  question  is  -  what  is  the  difference,  between  radar,  and  ON-YOUR-SCREEN  ?
There  actually  isnt  any  difference.  Yes,  IT  IS  easier  to  play  that  way,  but  only  slightly,  isnt  it  ?  Radar  is  the  same  thing  basicly,  but  with  radar-only,  you  get  the  disadvantage,  that  you  have  to  glance  every  time,  and  you  may  miss  something.

If  it   was  UP  to  me,  I'd  take  away  the  radar,  and  take  away  the  bullet/mag/grenade/bitch  counter,  and  all  that  stuff  from  the  screen,  and  I'd  leave  it  for  realism  and  people's  instincts  to  count.  I  WOULD,  however,  leave  the  RED  TRIANGLES  -   why  ?
Because  it's  the  same  thing,  as  your  brother  soldier,  from  somewhere  in  the  battlefield,  giving  some  enemy  sniper's  coordinates  over  the  radio.  Red  triangles  =  voice  communication  for  people,  who  dont  have  a  mic.  or  have  too  bad  of  a  connection/pc  WHATEVER,  for  a  mic.

I  have  not  played  BF2,  only  BC2.  So  I  can't  really  judge  BF2's  gameplay  -  people  say  it's  super  fun,  but  I  really  don't  see  how  those  red  triangles  would  ruin  it.  What  I  would  welcome  is  the  removal  of  radar  -  learning  stuff  by  heart  is  always  so  much  fun  -  I  just  hate  things,  that  help  you  out  (remember  -  red  triangles  =  voice  comm.  :)  ).

And  again,  sorry  for  the  repetitiveness  -  but  with  the  size  of  maps  in  Battlefield,  and  absence  of  those  suuuuuper  close  combat  small  -  quake-ish  maps,  red  triengles  really  do  not  do  all  that  much.  In  cod1/cod2  -  I  do  see  how  that  would  hurt  the  game,  because  the  atmosphere  is  very  tense  on  competitive  level  there,  every  vibe  in  the  air  can  be  made  into  an  advantage  or  disadvantage,  but  I  think  Battlefield  is  a  different  story,  its  a  much  more  pubish  and  fun  game  than  cod  ever  was  or  will  be.

I'm  also  wondering,  what  will  they  do  with  weapon  switching  and  other  assignments  in  BF3.  Because,  right  now,  in  BC2,  there  are  QUITE  enough  of  buttons  to  babysit,  what  will  happen  when  they  add  prone  and  perhaps...other  stuff  ?  They'll  probably  have  to  put  the  inbetween  pistol  and  rifle  switch  on  the  same  button,  which,  in  my  book,  is  a  good  thing  -  same  way  1  button  for  spotting/asking_teammates_for_stuff  is.

Ya,  sorry  for  the  wall  of  text.  Fight  me  on  red  triangles,  tho,  skap  :D

You  need  to  understand  that  BF2  had  voice  comm  that  worked  and  that  it  had  commander  mode.   The  commander  on  both  teams  knew  where  everyone  was  at  one  time.   Why?   Because  the  size  of  BF2  was  at  least  4  to  5  times  bigger  then  BC2.   The  maps  were  huge.   Take  Atamaca  Dessert  and  had  4  or  5  more  flags  in.   The  commander  didn't  actively  fight  he  stared  at  his  map  and  sent  you  supplies,  transports,  artillery  strikes  and  spotted  enemies  for  everyone.  Radar  was  the  only  thing  that  helped  understand  what  was  going  on  4  or  5  flags  across  the  map.   That's  why  radar  needs  to  be  in  the  game.   Red  Triangles  aren't  going  to  help  you  when  your  buddies  spotted  someone  5  flags  away  and  you  have  no  way  of  getting  to  that  enemy  without  a  hitchhike.
Also  red  triangles  are  basically  giving  jets  a  target  icon  something  that  was  only  seen  by  jets  in  BF2  for  enemies  in  tanks.   Jets  are  powerful  in  BF2  and  will  be  in  BF3  you  can't  give  them  more  of  it  with  those  triangles.   You  do  not  want  to  give  them  exact  locations  of  people  outside  of  vehicles  otherwise  you  would  never  live  long  enough  on  the  ground.

BC2  had  nothing  on  BF2  in  terms  of  button  assignments.   BF2  has  5  pages  of  button  assignments  with  at  least  20  assignments  on  each  page.   It  was  complicated  but  once  you  learned  to  use  it  right  it  was  amazing.   The  sheer  number  of  buttons  made  it  feel  like  you  had  control  over  everything  in  the  game.   Everything  that  was  except  the  parachute.   Parachuting  in  BF2  was  you  jamming  on  the  key  4  or  5  times  in  hopes  that  it  somehow  worked  and  you  didn't  end  up  as  a  pancake.   Here  are  some  pics  I  took  for  you.

Yeah,  BF2's  maps  do  seem  immense.

And  with  that  commander  stuff  it  does  sound  logical.  However,  the  way  you've  described  it  -  sounds  a  bit  flawed.  Why  does  someone  have  to  sit  all  the  time  by  the  map,  and  miss  on  action.  I  know  there  are  people  like  that,  but  is  it  really  worth  it  ?  And  what  if  nobody  likes  commander  stuff  -  does  the  whole  team  have  to  suffer  ?  How  does  it  play  out  ?

And  if  the  maps  are  that  huge,  even  if  commander  spots  someone  4-5  flags  away,  what  are  you  going  to  do  about  it  ?  It's  kind  of  the  same  as  with  triangles,  isnt  it  ?

What  I'm  basicly  trying  to  say  is...Spotting  button  in  BC2  did  basicly  the  function  of  2  whole  segments  in  BF2  -  commander  mode  AND  the  Q-button-tree-selelction-screenie-thingy.

Even  though  I  havent  played  with  the  commander  mode  in-the-game,  but  it  sounds  a  bit  clumsy.  And  I  really  hate  having  to  rely  on  the  radar,  I  hate  glancing  down,  I  really  prefer  eye  and  ear  instincts.  And  here  is  where  red  triangles  come  in  -  they  make  the  gameplay  faster.  You  want  an  action  ?  You  point  at  something,  and  you  press  your  spotting  button,  you  dont  need  to  go  to  that  communication  tree,  which  blocks  your  whole  screen,  you  have  to  stop,  select  a  command,  etc.  etc.  ...  I  dunno,  from  what  I  gather,  it  seems  that  BC2  makes  the  gameplay  quite  fast.  I  really  like  BC2's  gameplay,  it's  somehow  special,  I  think  Im  gonna  marry  it  D:

And  also  -  the  thing  is  -  they're  not  doing  commander-mode  in  BF3.  That's  why  I'm  wondering  about  that  triangle  stuff,  and  perhaps  they've  thought  of  another  system  ?

I  do  agree  -  triangle  system  is  flawed  in  a  way,  and  NOT...in  a  way.  Shooting  through  thick  tree  leaves  at  the  bottom  of  the  triangle  (without  even  seeing  the  enemy),  and  scoring  a  headshot,  is  a  bit  over  the  top,  but...  ISNT  IT  FUN  TO  DO  ?
What  those  triangles  should  do,  is  leave  a  red  triangle  where  the  enemy  was  the  moment  he  was  spotted,  and  not  follow  someone  through  walls.  That's  a  bit  WH'ish,  and  should  be  corrected,  but  still  -  man,  do  I  love  'em  Very Happy

I  mean...For  simple  people  of  the  world,  who  have  no  idea  about  battlefield  (and  that  is  what  BF3  is  bringing  in  -  lots  of  dorks  from  cod  series  and  so  on),  having  a  more  simple  system  that  doesnt  need  grinding  until  you  understand  it,  is  quite  good.
And  we  love  noobs,  dont  we,  q3  wouldnt  have  been  half  fun  if  there  werent  nooberts  in  pubs  to  pwn,  to  rack  up  that  10-15  per  minute  killstat,  which  happened  now  and  then.

The  Commander  on  the  winning  team  had  their  points  at  the  round  doubled.   Points  in  BF2  came  slowly(1  or  2  points  at  max)  They  also  weren't  out  on  the  action  they  were  the  ones  sending  artillery  strikes(think  mortars)  but  more  powerful  and  bigger  blast  radius.   You  could  get  4  or  5  kills  every  arty  strike  which  came  around  every  30  or  so  seconds.   They  also  sent  UAVs  that  scanned  players  locations  for  a  few  seconds.

So  your  team  can  cut  them  off.   If  someone  ran  past  the  first  few  flags  to  take  a  less  occupied  flag  the  commander  could  order  the  others  around  to  block  this  maneuver.   Nothing  sucked  more  then  pinning  a  team  to  their  last  two  flags  only  to  have  an  enemy  squad  slip  by  and  go  take  back  the  rest  of  the  flags.

Also  the  spot  system/comm  rose  was  the  same  as  it  is  BC2.   One  press  to  get  the  spot  off.   You  never  had  to  specfy  what  kind  of  enemy  is  there.   If  you  used  it  on  a  Jet  they  would  say  "Enemy  Jet  spotted"   But  unlike  BC2  if  you  missed  people  still  knew  someone  was  there.   It  also  gave  u  the  option  of  calling  for  help  from  the  commander  or  asking  for  ammo/health  even  when  you  had  no  medics  or  supports  around  you.   Having  to  use  Q  in  BC2  on  an  assault  to  ask  for  ammo  was  pointless.   It  never  made  it  to  chat  and  half  the  time  they  didn't  hear  you  anyway.   In  BC2  if  no  one  is  around  and  your  out  of  ammo  your  only  option  is  to  go  find  someone  and  spam  Q  at  them.   That  shouldn't  have  to  be  the  case,  you  should  be  able  to  call  them  at  any  time.

I've  seen  videos  and  tried  BF2  on  single-player  basis,  and  basicly,  the  rose  system  is  very  much  on  par  to  me,  with  the  Q  button  in  BC2.  Both  have  disadvantages.

The  rose  blocks  the  screen,  is  a  bit  clumsy  and  takes  a  little  bit  more  time  to  be  executed.  Also,  what  it  does,  is  clogs  up  the  screen  with  text  and  clogs  up  audio  que  with  people  shouting.  Sometimes  people  use  that  to  annoy  others.

The  Q  button  sometimes  ties  your  hands  behind  your  back,  when  you're  playing  against  newbs,  you  can  shout  all  you  want,  nobody  will  hear  you,  and  it  just  pisses  you  off.
Although,  this  is  the  place  where  it's  advantages  come  in.  Q  button  also  makes  you  blink  on  a  specific  action,  and  even  if  people  dont  hear  you  -  they  may  see  a  flashing  icon.
Another  thing  -  Q  button  doesnt  block  your  view  in  any  way  -  no  rose,  no  additional  text  messages,  you  have  a  clean  screen.

Today  had  an  awesome  game,  went  something  83-30  on  Oasis  (lots  of  tickets),  and  people  really  helped  each  other,  responded  to  every  plea  for  ammo  or  health,  always  spawned  on  you  when  you're  behind  the  lines  infiltrating  a  flag  and  it  was  really  nice  to  play.  Tho,  I  have  to  say,  I  found  myself  in  need  of  binds  at  times  -  Q  button  is  not  enough  sometimes.

You  guys  talking  about  BC2  makes  me  wanna  play  again.  I  have  one  problem  about  it  though  :  my  in-game  sounds  are  quiet  ...  My  volume  is  at  100%  and  I  can't  make  it  any  higher,  but  I  would  still  need  more  sounds  to  truly  hear  everything  in  the  game.  I  should  maybe  just  buy  a  new  pair  of  headphones.

You  don't  need  to  hear  everything  in  that  game  to  play  well.   The  days  of  good  sound=you  kill  everything  has  never  been  in  Battlefield.   I  can  play  BC2  with  no  sound  on  and  still  score  ridiculously  high  with  a  good  KVery Happy.

Well  maybe  in  public  games  yes,  but  I've  seen  a  guy  who  shot  me  through  the  house;  I  was  on  top  floor,  he  was  one  floor  under  and  he  could  tell  where  I  was  just  from  my  footsteps.  I've  had  quite  a  good  number  of  high  scores  myself,  all  I'm  saying  is  that  maybe  I  could  play  a  little  bit  better  with  better  sounds.
