“  Stress  has  always  been  synonymous  with  soldiers  involved  in  armed  conflict  and  the  carnage  of  war.  Combat  places  tremendous  psychological  strain  upon  the  individual  and  certain  psychiatric  conditions  can  prevent  men  and  women  from  behaving  as  they  are  expected  to  behave.  ”  The  veterans  of  of  the  3  great  wars,  WW1,  WW2  and  Vietnam  suffer  great  Post  Traumatic  Stress  Disorder,  it  has  affected  thousands  upon  thousands  men  and  sometimes  women  who  have  been  in  combat  while  going  on  tours  of  duty  in  the  past  wars.
Early  diagnosis  of  battle  stress  (as  opposed  to  cowardice  in  the  face  of  the  enemy  or  a  lack  of  moral  fiber)  has  centered  on  battle  shock  or  war  neurosis.  It  is  stated  that  over  20  percent  of  all  wounded  in  the  British  Second  Army  were  battle  shock  victims  and  that  the  6th  US  Marine  Division  suffered  2662  wounded  in  ten  days  of  fighting  and  also  1287  psychiatric  casualties.  War  changes  men's  natures.   Abnormal  men  seldom  commit  the  barbarities  of  war.   The  tragedy  of  war  is  that  these  horrors  are  committed  by  normal  men  in  situations  in  which  the  ebb  and  flow  of  everyday  life  have  departed  and  been  replaced  by  a  constant  round  of  fear  and  anger  and  blood  and  death.   Soldiers  at  war  are  not  to  be  judged  by  civilian  rules.  [Wayne  J  Scott,  1].  That  is  because  in  war  they  are  not  just  civilians,  they  are  trained  to  deal  with  the  jobs  other  men  cannot  handle.  They  are  trained  to  deal  with  death,  killing  people,  picking  up  dead  body  parts,  coping  with  seeing  your  friend  get  killed  and  trained  to  kill.  A  lot  of  people  have  a  very  hard  time  coping  with  seeing  people  you  grew  up  being  killed  in  front  of  you,  or  a  guy  you  met  and  became  great  friends  with,  watching  him  get  killed  or  loose  a  limb.  They  go  into  the  war  as  just  a  regular  man,   but  they  come  out  as  a  different  person.  They  sometimes  have  urges  to  kill  people  because  that  is  what  they  were  doing  for  the  past  12  months  to  4  years,  they  were  killing  people.
The  symptoms  of  PTSD  are  re-experiencing  the  traumas  again  flashbacks,  nightmares,  intrusive  memories  and  exaggerated  emotional  and  physical  reactions  to  triggers  that  remind  the  person  of  the  trauma.  Emotional  numbing,  feeling  detached,  lack  of  emotions  (especially  positive  ones),  loss  of  interest  in  activities.  Avoidance,  avoiding  activities,  people,  or  places  that  remind  the  person  of  the  trauma.  Increased  arousal,  difficulty  sleeping  and  concentrating,  irritability,  hyper  vigilance  (being  on  guard),  and  exaggerated  startle  response.  These  are  just  some  to  the  many  of  different  symptoms  of  PTSD.
Some  people  have  stronger  reactions  to  PTSD  than  others  but  they  have  similar  situations,  “Anyone  exposed  to  a  severely  traumatic  experience  is  likely  to  have  symptoms  of  post-traumatic  stress.  However,  one  person's  symptoms  may  appear  soon  after  the  event,  while  another's  may  not  surface  for  several  months  or  maybe  even  for  years.”  One  person  may  have  relatively  minor  difficulty  adjusting  and  returning  to  a  fairly  normal  state,  with  mild  and  occasional  flare-ups,  while  another  might  be  debilitated  for  years  to  come.  Even  if  two  people  are  exposed  to  the  same  situation  at  the  same  time,  they  will  have  different  levels  of  reaction.”  Some  of  the  many  consequences  of  PTSD  are  physiological  outcome  which  is  neurobiological  changes,  psychological  outcomes  which  target  depression,  conduct  orders  and  eating  disorders,  social  outcomes  which  include  low  self  esteem,  alcohol  and  substance  abuse,  homelessness  and  trouble  with  the  law.  The  last  one  is  self-destructive  behavior  and  this  one  contains  substance  abuse,  suicide  attempts,  reckless  driving,  self  injury  and  in  some  cases  sexual  acts  that  may  cause  pregnancy  or  STDs.

“Because  PTSD  has  so  strongly  affected  the  brain  itself,  treatment  often  takes  longer  and  progresses  more  slowly  than  with  other  types  of  anxiety  disorders,  and  is  most  effective  with  a  specialist  in  trauma  recovery.  It  is  most  important  to  feel  comfortable  and  safe  with  the  therapist,  so  there  is  no  additional  fear  or  anxiety  about  the  treatment  itself”.  He  is  basically  saying  that  a  lot  of  veterans  won’t  talk  about  what  happened  in  the  war  it  has  affected  them  that  bad.  They  have  to  be  close  and  trust  a  person  before  they  can  talk  to  them,  before  they  can  have  any  conversations  about  something  this  serious.  The  doctors  try  a  few  different  methods,  one  includes  Cognitive-Behavioral  Therapy  (CBT),  often  including  exploring  personal  history  as  well  as  history  of  the  event,  challenging  beliefs  and  thoughts  that  lead  to  distress,  learning  to  recognize  and  manage  "triggering"  episodes,  and  exposure  or  desensitization  (gradual  re-introduction  to  the  event  that  caused  the  trauma).  The  other  one  is  Psychotherapy  may  include  relaxation  techniques  (deep  breathing,  muscle  relaxation,  positive  imagery,  meditation,  neurofeedback,  prayer,  etc.)  There  are  documented  instances  where  relaxation  was  counterproductive—triggering  rather  than  relieving  symptoms.  The  doctors  need  to  try  as  much  as  they  can  to  help  the  patient  by  using  these  two  methods,  but  some  people  will  never  recover.  Some  veterans  will  never  have  the  same  thought  of  mind  as  they  once  had.  For  medications  they  often  use  anti-depressants  and  also  anti-anxiety  medications.  [Jaelline  Jaffe,  Jeanne  Segal,1]

“Traumatic  experiences  can  produce  feelings  of  anxiety,  depression,  despair,  hopelessness,  reoccurring  anger,  self-blame,  guilt,  and  shame,  as  well  as  sexual  dysfunction,  compulsive  or  aggressive  behaviors,  sleep  disorders,  and  concentration  problems.”  [Jaelline  Jaffe,  Jeanne  Segal,1]     People  with  this  disorder  are  really  bad  off,  we  need  to  stop  sending  our  soldiers  into  war  and  causing  them  these  horrible  problems  that  make  a  lot  of  them  in  the  end,  end  their  own  lives.

I'ma  make  some  suggestions  for  you  if  you  don't  mind   Evil or Very Mad  I  highlighted  the  changes  in  red,  so  you  can  compare.  If  you  see  big  blocks  of  red,  don't  be  alarmed  as  there  are  probably  only  a  few  changes.  I  was  too  lazy  to  highlight  each  individual  correction,  so  I  just  highlighted  the  block  of  text.  Good  Luck  (read  my  pointers  at  the  bottom)!

Smile  Hope  you  get  to  this  before  you  submit  it,  here  are  a  few  pointers.

--Avoid  using  second  person,  phrases  like  "Your  friend"  or  "See  someone  you  grew  up  with."  You  are  writing  here  in  the  third  person,  don't  introduce  anything  else.

--You  first  paragraph  about  PTSD  (third  paragraph  overall)  had  lots  of  sentence  fragments,  I  made  them  into  full  sentences  for  you.

--Your  second  paragraph  about  PTSD  (fourth  one  overall)  contains  3  quotation  marks?  I'm  confused,  quotation  marks  can  only  be  used  in  pairs,  so  check  your  quotations  in  that  section.

--Avoid  run-on  sentences,  and  learn  to  use  a  semicolon,  it  will  be  your  best  friend  when  fixing  runon  sentences!  If  you  need  help  learning  how  to  properly  use  it,  just  ask  me!  Smile
